Minblowing third installation of UK noise hero Russell Haswell's Live Salvage series on Editions Mego. Culled mostly from live performances opening for Autechre on their 2009/10 European tour, these sets vary wildly in length but are all constructed using analogue elements, as opposed to his usual modus operandi for his electronic noise sets which generally involve an all digital arrangement via laptop. This makes for a far more rough and ready sound on this record, not to mention the frothing crowd sound before, during and after each set, sometimes even calling for his head; the vast majority of the sets are played to half empty club rooms littered with somewhat wasted/revved up types eagerly awaiting Autechre to nail them to the dancefloor for the next 2 hours, but instead they get this in the meantime. You probably can't dance to it but I'll be damned if I'm not rockin' my head and pumpin' my fist to it.
Oh yeah and did I mention it is in SURROUND SOUND! The special UHJ format LP may not be a viable surround sound output option for most of us with modest turntable equipment at home (although it will most certainly play on any turntable) but handily, this package comes with the whole album on Dolby 5.1 DVD audio, which may be a little more attainable and most certainly seems like the way it was intended to be digested. And yes, this is probably a super limited release, a re-press sounds expensive!
RECOMMEND.
